In this course, drywall expert and longtime Fine Homebuilding contributor Myron Ferguson takes us on the jobsite to learn the basics of hanging and finishing drywall using simple hand tools. Myron takes us through an entire drywall project from start to finish—measuring and ordering materials, inspecting the framing, choosing fasteners and tools, hanging ceilings and walls, marking and cutting out electrical boxes, prepping problem areas prior to mud, selecting tape and compound, and taping and finishing. Myron also explains the different levels of drywall finishing up to level 5 and takes viewers on a site visit to a drywall yard to see the diversity of products available on the market today. This course will give remodelers and anyone else who might tackle a drywall project a solid foundation and the information they need to achieve a high level of finish, regardless of their experience.

The tool that many builders reach for to help them, their team, and their clients visualize a project in three dimensions is Sketchup. Drawing and visual planning play an important role in building, whether it's a hand-drawn sketch or a CAD rendering. Two dimensional drawings have obvious limitations on a job site, so imagine if you could easily draw important details on the spot in three dimensions? Sketchup gives you that ability. This software can help you build models to describe your idea to a client or dissect a detail with team members. This course will outline the basic tools in the software and show how you can start by building a 2x4 and work your way up to a whole house.
